The Balancing Act

I just returned from a ten day vacation and it was fun, but exhausting. I made 8 total trips to the San Diego airport, 3 trips to In N Out, 1 trip to the San Diego Zoo, countless trips to several beaches, and attending one big beautiful wedding with my little girl.

As fun as it all was to be around my friends and family and see people I don't get to see very often, it was very hard with Emma. I notice pictures that I am missing from and events that I couldn't attend simply because it just doesn't always work out with a child with you. I don't regret a thing with my baby, I love her more than anything in this world, but it is heartbreaking to have to tell your lifelong best friends no because of whats best for your child.

I did get to do quite a bit this week, though. Emma attended brunch with all the girls and even came and met me after rehearsal dinner. She came to the wedding, although she slept through a lot of it, and she went on many shopping trips with me. She even got to come out with my friends and I for lunch and drinks outside on a roof top deck. Who says you can't have it all? A baby does change your life, but it doesn't end it. You make decisions for your child, but it doesn't mean you can't have a life anymore. I love being able to bring Emma with me and not everything has to be about drinking or other adult activities, I just love being around my friends.

Although I had a glass of wine here and there, and some mimosas at brunch, the majority of my trip was alcohol free because not only did I have a baby to tend to, but I am also still breast feeding. If you have or are breast feeding, you know it's like a full time job and to pump and dump is just not something I am willing to do in order to have a drunken night.

At the end of the trip, I was stressed out and ready to go home. Not because of Emma so much, but spending an entire week in a house with your parents can be tiring, and the time change between the East and West coast are no joke! I am so very thankful for the time with my friends and the people that are near and dear to my heart, and that so many people got to meet Emma during this trip.

Congratulations Katie & Brad, We Love You!
