Hurricane Florence

I've been completely obsessed with storms my entire life. I love thunderstorms, and I love rain. I became even more obsessed with hurricanes when I moved to the South. Two years ago, I experienced my first hurricane in Savannah. Hurricane Matthew hit us pretty good and there was a lot of damage here. I saw houses in my neighborhood torn apart, trees down across the golf course that were probably hundreds of years old, and power outages everywhere. The one grocery store that was running off a generator a day after looked like we were in the middle of an apocalypse. People fighting over bread, residents of different races fighting over their place in line, and SWAT teams covering every aisle. It was insane. Then last year, we had yet another hurricane - Irma hit and we lost power for 8 days. I was 7 months pregnant and it was (at least) 90 degrees in the house. It was a long 8 days, but we made it through.

Now we embark on the peak of hurricane season 2018 and Florence is approaching the East coast. On the heels of Florence, we have two more potential hurricanes about to form. We usually have a mandatory evacuation, and previously I have stayed in my home for these. I have a few reasons for this:

1. Getting back into the city afterwards is pure hell. I have heard horror stories of people spending 10 hours in traffic to get back home.

2. I have two dogs, one of which is 150 pounds and unless we head to a shelter, its hard to find a place that I can take them both

3. People are assholes. During a tragic event like this, people take advantage and break into houses. I don't want to come home to all of my stuff being stolen

We will prepare for the worst months of hurricane season, and see what happens. Florence will be approaching next week, and we will be watching her activity closely!
